Full Job Description
Position Overview
Hybrid, licensed commercial insurance role managing an established portfolio of business clients — this is a stable, hourly position, not a commission-only sales role, and no cold prospecting is required.
We're a growing, people-first independent insurance agency seeking an experienced Commercial Insurance Advisor who can manage a book of business with minimal supervision and bring thoughtful coverage recommendations to business owners across Central New York.
You'll work alongside a collaborative commercial team supporting small-to-mid-sized businesses, including contractors, restaurants, manufacturers, municipalities, retail businesses, professional offices, non-profits, salons, and many other local businesses.
You'll work with respected carriers including Erie Insurance, The Hartford, Dryden Mutual, OCMIC, and Progressive, along with numerous additional regional, national, and specialty markets to help find coverage for each client's requirements.
Schedule & Work Location
Training: 6 – 8 weeks onsite in Baldwinsville, 5 days per week with structured support
After training, choose your in-office days from Baldwinsville, Fulton, or Oswego
Hybrid schedule — typically 3 days in-office, 2 work-from-home days per week
Full-time, Monday – Friday
No nights, no weekends
Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities
This role covers three core areas — managing an existing book of business, marketing and negotiating coverage, and staying organized while doing both.
Portfolio Management
- Manage a portfolio of commercial clients
- Review renewals and recommend coverage improvements
- Assist clients with endorsements, certificates of insurance, billing questions, and claims guidance
- Identify opportunities to strengthen existing client relationships through additional coverage recommendations
Marketing & Underwriting
- Market accounts to insurance carriers
- Prepare proposals and explain coverage recommendations
- Complete ACORD applications and supplemental underwriting forms
- Work directly with underwriters to negotiate coverage and pricing
- Recognize when an Excess & Surplus (E&S) market may be an appropriate solution for a particular risk
Systems & Documentation
- Maintain organized and accurate documentation within HawkSoft
- Work collaboratively with teammates to deliver a consistently strong client experience
What We're Looking For — and What You'll Earn
Here's what you'll need to bring to this role and exactly what Horan puts on the table in return.
What You Bring
- Active New York State Property & Casualty License
- At least 5 years of commercial insurance experience (or a minimum of 3 years in commercial lines following a strong personal lines background)

- Familiarity with Excess & Surplus (E&S) placements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Teams
- Preferred: experience using the HawkSoft Agency Management System
- Preferred: professional insurance designations such as CISR, CIC, CRM, CPCU, or similar
- A college degree is not required
Compensation & Benefits
- Base Pay: $45.67 – $50.48 per hour (based on experience)
- Quarterly bonus opportunities
- Health, dental & vision insurance
- 401(k) with employer match
- 10 days PTO
- Up to 5 additional paid sick days
- Paid federal holidays
- Birthday off
- Paid parental leave
